For those who missed it: she claimed the Holocaust was not about race, and when she was corrected IMMEDIATELY stated that Jews and Nazis were “two groups of white people.” An earlier article I read about her conduct also indicated that she said whites should fight whites, or in context: that she cared equally about the welfare of Nazis and Shoah victims, because after all, they were all white.
Her apology is not enough. Someone needs to remind this woman that claiming Jews are (all*) white is a form of antisemitism and soft Holocaust denialism.
*there are certainly white Jewish converts, I am one of them, but Jews exist across all seven continents and the tribe originated in the Levant. If our ancestors were thrown in a time machine and slapped into the middle of 2022, we’d probably call them Arabic, based on looks.

Like. I can understand maybe saying something like “it’s a complicated issue to look at because when you think ‘Jewish’ in 2022 you probably have a mental image of a white person.” THAT IS PROBABLY A TRUE STATEMENT. (Shit, my BIL is at least half Iranian, and if you didn’t know he wasn’t white, you’d never know.) But to claim all Jews are white, and then during a discussion of the Holocaust say “let them fight each other”?

I wanna add on here (white person, slavic jewish decent) that whiteness, just like any other race, is a social construct.
Nazis typically don’t consider Jewish people, no matter their skin tone, to be ‘white’. The KKK certainly don’t because their definition of “"white”“ is based on backwards ideas of 'purity’.
Whoopi’s statement was super ignorant in a lot of ways, including that she’s outright ignoring the context of prejudice that fueled the Holocaust.
Yep. And Joy Behar POINTED THIS OUT, in a way so well-spoken I was startled to hear it coming out of the mouth of a white person. Whoopi’s response to the correction was to double down and then triple down.
